Reclaim SOL Rent

Solana charges rent for account storage. When you create a token account, NFT account, or Candy Machine, some SOL stays in that account so it can exist. Closing the account sends the remaining lamports back to the signer. You only get that SOL if the account is actually closed.

Empty token accounts

An associated token account with a zero balance still holds rent. After you no longer need that mint, close the empty account. If a dust balance is stuck, burn the junk balance first, then close.

NFTs and Candy Machines

Burning an NFT you do not want can return rent from the accounts that burn instruction closes. Use Burn NFTs and read which standards it supports before you sign. A finished Candy Machine is a different account: closing it does not burn the NFTs people already minted.

What not to close

Each tool asks the wallet to sign the close or burn. Solana Toolset does not take custody of the account. Confirm the address on screen before you approve. Fees and returned rent both depend on the account; neither is a fixed SOL number.

SOL rent FAQ

Does every account return the same amount of SOL?
No. Rent depends on the account size. Closing returns that account’s lamports minus any fee. This site does not quote one SOL amount for every close.
Is it safe to close every empty token account?
Only close accounts you recognize and that hold zero of a token you do not need. Closing an account that is required by an open order, a vesting lock, or a program you still use can break that position.
Will I get SOL back from an NFT I still want?
No. Burning or closing an asset you want to keep destroys or removes it. Reclaim tools are for accounts you are finished with.
