How to Create a Solana Token
Creating a Solana token means publishing a mint your wallet controls, attaching metadata people can read in explorers and wallets, and deciding which authorities stay active after launch. Solana Toolset does that from the browser: you never paste a private key into the site.
What you need before you open the form
Have a funded wallet on the network you intend to use (mainnet or devnet). Prepare a square image, a short name and symbol, and a description. Decide the initial supply and decimals. Decide whether mint authority and freeze authority should remain with your wallet after create, or whether you will revoke them later.
If you want a brandable mint address, generate a vanity keypair first with the vanity address tool, then use that key when the creator supports custom mint keypairs. Otherwise the wallet signs a standard create path.
Pick the token program
Classic SPL Token plus Metaplex Token Metadata is what most "create a Solana token" tutorials mean. Token-2022 (Token Extensions) is a different program with optional extensions. Do not create both for the same brand unless you know why. Use SPL vs Token-2022 if you are unsure, then open either Create Classic Token or Create Token-2022.
Fill metadata carefully
Name and symbol show in wallets. The image URI and JSON metadata URI must stay reachable. Wrong decimals are expensive to fix socially even if you can mint more supply. Update authority lets you change metadata later on classic mints; if you revoke it, names and images freeze for that metadata account.
Authorities after create
Mint authority can increase supply. Freeze authority can freeze token accounts. Leaving both active is normal during testing; many teams revoke them before marketing a fixed-supply token. Revoking is permanent — use Revoke Authorities only when you mean it. A rug check does not replace your own authority plan.
Fees you will see
Solana Toolset create flows that charge a platform fee show 0.05 SOL on the form in addition to rent and network fees. That fee is part of the create transaction when the form says so. Storage uploads for images may use a separate provider with its own limits.
After the mint exists
- Verify the mint on an explorer and on Token Safety / Rug Check.
- Update metadata with Update Classic Token or Update Token-2022 while you hold update authority.
- Mint or burn with Token Management if mint authority remains.
- Export holders later with Token Holder Snapshot for airdrops.
Devnet first
Practice on Devnet with faucet SOL from Solana Faucets. Switch networks in the header before you create. Mainnet creates real assets and real costs.
When you are ready, open Create Classic Token or Create Token-2022 and sign only after the fee line matches what you expect.

How to Create a Solana Token — FAQ
- Do I need to code to create a Solana token?
- No. Solana Toolset Create Classic Token and Create Token-2022 build the mint from the browser. You connect a wallet and sign. You still need image and metadata ready, and enough SOL for network fees plus the create fee shown on the form.
- Is creating a token free?
- The form shows a 0.05 SOL platform fee on supported create flows, plus Solana network fees and any metadata storage upload. Always read the fee line on the tool before you sign.
- Should I use SPL or Token-2022?
- Classic SPL with Metaplex metadata is the common path for simple community tokens. Token-2022 is for Token Extensions. Read SPL vs Token-2022 on this site, then open the matching creator.
