Token-2022 Extensions Explained
Token-2022 extensions are optional features attached to a mint or its token accounts. They change transfer rules, fees, confidentiality, or authority models compared with classic SPL.
Why extensions exist
Teams wanted transfer fees, interest-bearing designs, permanent delegates, and other behaviors without forking the entire token program. Token-2022 packages those as extensions. Not every wallet or DEX indexes every extension the same way, so test before you market a mint.
What this site creates
Create Token-2022 covers the create path exposed in the form — metadata and the Token-2022 program — not a full catalog of every extension Solana Labs documents. If a toggle is not on the page, the tool does not enable it.
Update metadata later with Update Token-2022 when you hold update authority. Manage supply with Token Management when mint authority remains.
Practical advice
- Prefer the simplest mint that meets the product need.
- Document for holders which extensions are on.
- Revoke mint or freeze authority only when the economics are final.
- Compare with classic SPL in SPL vs Token-2022.
For permissioned token standards on top of Token-2022, read MPL-3643. Ready to mint? Use Create Token-2022.

Token-2022 Extensions Explained — FAQ
- Does Create Token-2022 enable every extension?
- No. The form creates a Token-2022 mint with the options shown in the UI. Exotic or custom extensions need your own program work.
- Can I add extensions after create?
- Many extensions must be configured at mint creation. Do not assume you can retrofit them later.
- Is Token-2022 the same as MPL-3643?
- No. MPL-3643 is a Metaplex permissioned-token design that can sit on Token-2022. See the MPL-3643 guide. Solana Toolset does not issue MPL-3643 tokens.
